Who we are

The SeaHorse Dive Club is a recreational organization for bringing together current and retired employees of The Boeing Company, and their families over our shared love of SCUBA diving.

SeaHorse Dive Club Acceptable Use Policy

Our collective community values:

  • Positivity – We choose to cultivate positivity in our interactions with each other, creating a space where people can come to feel supported.
  • Courtesy & Respect – We choose to be kind and polite to one another. We don’t have to agree on everything – in fact, we believe that it’s beneficial to have varied views and perspectives. However, we encourage all members to be constructive and tactful when sharing their opinions. Everyone deserves to share their thoughts and ideas in our community, as long as they are respectful toward others.
  • Thoughtful Language – We choose to be mindful of how our words and tone might be understood. We’ve learned that written communication has the potential to be easily misinterpreted, especially by members from different cultures and backgrounds. For instance, sometimes sarcasm is not so easily detected in the written word. If there’s a moment when someone says something that feels offensive, it’s very likely that they didn’t mean to upset anyone and it was just a misunderstanding or miscommunication. However, if you have felt hurt or offended by anything that’s been said by someone in the community, please feel free to speak with that person privately or contact a site admin for help. Please don’t use the forums or comment threads to have arguments or settle disputes.

What we encourage you to do in the community:

  • Share your experiences & ask for help
    • Absolutely feel free to share the experiences you’ve had and/or ask for advice and guidance. It’s likely that others are going through or have gone through the same experience.
  • Answer questions & support others and the club
    • When you’re able to, please help others in the community by answering their questions, sharing your experience and ideas, and supporting them. We’re all here to share our love of diving and the oceans, and to help others increase their enjoyment of diving as well.
    • Are you a diver who would be willing to take out a new diver who needs a buddy? Say so on your profile. Are you a diver who needs a buddy? Don’t be shy about asking either on the Community forum, or by looking through the member profiles of folks who say they’d be willing to buddy up.
    • Are you willing to help out the club by volunteering at an event, planning an event or serving on the Executive Board? You can do that. Contact any of the Executive Board members to learn more.

No commercial posting

The SeaHorse Dive club website is strictly non-commercial. Any self-promotion or sales of commercial products is strictly prohibited unless specifically approved by an admin. In plain language, please do not use this service to advertise your business (or a friend or relative’s business) or sell products, including your new or used gear. We may, in the future, set up an area where that is permitted, but until then please don’t.

There is a gray area around giving a review of a business such as a resort or dive shop or instructor or a brand of equipment that you’ve had experience with, and commercial posting. In general, those kinds of posts are allowed and encouraged because they help others in the community find good deals and experiences. A post about your great experience in Roatan or how much you love your new drysuit are allowed. Repeated posts or comments of links to a business (i.e., SPAM) is not.

Leave bad reviews of businesses on commercial sites, not here

Unfortunately, we need to say this: Don’t take your dispute with a vendor or resort or dive shop and hash it out here. Yes, this is also kind of a gray area and a bit contradictory with what we just said above, but this is not the venue to settle commercial disputes. If you have a problem with a dive business, take it up with them directly. If you want to give a bad review, there are commercial sites for that like Yelp or Google, where the business will be able to see it and respond. In general, don’t do it here, in private, behind our login where the business can’t see it. It’s not fair. If you feel like you need to share a negative experience with our community, post your review on a commercial site (again, where the business can see it and respond) and link to it.

No abusive language or hate speech

Courtesy and respect and thoughtful language are required when interacting on this site. Abusive language, hate speech, bullying or any of the other toxic behaviors one sees in other online communities are not welcome here.

Refrain from using forum topics or comment threads to hash out disputes or hold arguments – Please do not use the comment threads or discussion forums to have running arguments or hash out your differences. Respectful discussions about opinions are fine, but please try to limit the back and forth. Like most rules for decent behavior, this one is subjective, but please be sensitive to hijacking a thread with an argument. If a topic is getting out of hand, please contact a moderator or admin.

Family friendly zone

Our site is intended to be suitable for all ages. Please keep that in mind when uploading images. Uploading inappropriate images to any of our services or features will be a violation of this policy and may result in consequences, up to and including expulsion from the club.

Admins and the Executive Board have the last word

Violations of our community standards are determined by site admins and the club Executive Board. If you see bad behavior, please report it. Users may be warned, temporarily suspended, or permanently banned from the online community. Severe violations may result in the revocation of club membership.
